Seva Mandir (Location: Rajasthan)

Organisation Objective

Seva Mandir focuses on creating the social, institutional, and livelihood base for a democratic and participatory approach to development that benefits and empowers the poorest sections of society. The democratic and participatory approach is achieved by creating and strengthen institutions for development (at the village, organization and society levels), to enhance people’s capabilities for self-development (both at individual and community level) and to create sustainable improvements in the livelihoods base (Udaipur and Rajsamand districts of southern Rajasthan)

Programs

Program Name	Program Objective
Livelihoods	Seva Mandir continues to work towards a strategy of rain-fed development and to increase the productivity and sustainability of agriculture and livestock. This includes: land treatment, water resource development (including for human drinking purposes) and the promotion of improved, low-input, natural farming methods and livestock interventions sensitive to dry-land conditions.
Capabilities Education	This work includes strengthening and forming women's and children's associations at various levels from the village through to the district and using these platforms to give voice to their concerns and contribute to a broader social change process. Efforts are also made at sensitisation and mainstreaming activities focusing on gender, youth, children and other marginal groups as a means of giving them voice, securing their rights, and enabling them to become empowered participants in the development process.
Institutions	The work seeks to enhance citizen engagement in formal governance structures and processes, and to improve the delivery of government services. To consolidate and add momentum to all these efforts, Seva Mandir also focuses on supporting and strengthening a movement of people-centered governance through bringing representatives of people's institutions together at various levels through federations and gatherings.
